Using SmartMerge with Email Marketing

Integrate your email platform's merge tags directly into your content

In this article, we’re covering how to merge email recipient data into adventrs automatically within your email marketing platform. This is useful for sending invitations, newsletters, and other personalized emails at scale.

Whether you’re using MailChimp, Salesforce, Microsoft 365, or another platform that supports Merge Fields, you can easily integrate your customer data to personalize adventrs at scale with Smart Merge.

For the purposes of this example, we’ll be creating an invitation that will automatically populate our recipient's name based on contact data within our email marketing tool.

Part 1: Creating Merge Tags on Adventr

Skip below to Part 2 if you already know how to set up merge tags within Adventr.

1. Create a video that leaves space for the customer information you want automatically merged into your adventr.
   

2. Upload your video(s) into adventr and connect it on the canvas.
   
   

3. Click on the Design tab, then click Edit beside Variables.
   

4. Click Add Variable and type in your variable name(s). Exit the Edit Variables modal to return to your canvas.
   

5. Optional: Feel free to add a default value such as Loyal Customer to account for potential missing customer data.
   
   

6. Click Edit Overlays and add a Static Text overlay to the area you want your recipient’s name to populate.
   
   

7. Click Text to edit the text of your static field.
   
   

8. Enter text and drag in your variable wherever you’d like to merge in your recipient’s data.
   

9. Publish your project by clicking Publish.
   
   

10. Exit the modal and click on Smart Embed next to the Publish button.
    
    

11. Click Copy Link to copy the Adventr URL. You don't need to fill in any variables at this step.
    

Part 2: Integrating Adventr's Merge Tags With Your Email System

Next, you’ll incorporate this URL into your email campaign and set it up to personalize each recipient’s adventr automatically.

1. Create a hyperlink and paste the link you copied from Adventr into the URL.
   
   

2. Select the image or text you want recipients to click to view their personalized adventr.
   
   

3. Create a hyperlink and paste the link you copied from Adventr into the URL.
   
   

4. Edit the value after &custom-Name= and add your Merge Tag of choice.
   
   

Adventr will refer to this field and dynamically/automatically merge in the recipient’s data.
